Kumu Hula and 'Olapa Hula Training.."Many are Called, Few are Chosen."

Kumu Frank Keli'i Chang
Aloha!

It's kainoa...

I am very excited to announce that Monday, April 16th,
we will begin accepting applications for the Kumu Hula and 'Olapa Hula Intensive Training program.

The mainland hula community is recognizing that this is a unique opportunity, and we are expecting many inquiries. Becoming a Kumu Hula is a serious undertaking. and it is not for everyone to do. It became apparent that we would need to assess each applicant as best as we could, but the fact of the matter is that it's really up to you...faith plus desire...indeed, does move mountains!

Because of the nature of this course and all that we want it to be, we felt it was necessary to maintain a smaller, more intimate group for the Kumu Hula training program. By staying true to to that concept we felt that we would be able to create a learning environment which would encourage an intimate bond that unites each member with a common purpose of aloha. The unity created would then enlarge our circles, our community, and our ohana.

You may have heard the expression,"Many are called, few are chosen." What does that quote mean to you? To me, it means that sometimes we hear a calling to be something,  or do something, but when it gets right down to the nitty gritty of it, the fact is, we were probably just attracted to certain aspects of whatever it was. If you're feeling a desire to become a Kumu Hula, but maybe you're just unsure, you have doubts that this is your calling, your chosen path. Maybe you want to take the course and explore if it's for you. If that sentence speaks to you and you aren't really sure what your goals are in hula then I would recommend applying for the 'Olapa training. While in the 'Olapa training, you will be able to deepen your knowledge of hula and decide if the idea of becoming a kumu hula is the path you want to take. Then, when the opportunity presents itself again, you will know!

On the other hand, If your first love is hula and you've known for a million years that teaching the hula is what you want to do, (I've known for at least that long!) and the only thing holding you back, until now, is having the ability to be properly trained and mentored... then I would say that you are a pretty good candidate. and that all that is needed is your intention to make it happen!

A hui hou!

Hula Intensive Training

Kumu Frank Keli'i Chang

Aloha!

I have been busy making arrangements, preparing to welcome Kumu Hula, Frank Keli'i Chang to Colorado. I am so honored to partner with Kumu Keli'i to bring an intensive style hula training to the Denver metro area. I have had the distinct privilege to have received mentor ship under Kumu Keli'i.  I know him to be a humble and gracious human being.  Kumu is great wealth of knowledge, and he does not hesitate to share with those that have a sincere desire to learn.

Kumu Keli'i's personal mission is to teach the knowledge handed down to him by his former Kumu Hula. His desire is to produce knowledgeable and traditionally trained teachers to carry on the legacy of his Kumu Hula.

It is virtually impossible to receive this type of intensive training here on the mainland. I was inspired to create this opportunity for those who want to directly focus on becoming expertly trained hula dancers and/or Kumu Hula. This training will definitely be life changing and for many a lifelong dream come true!

There is no doubt that this training will be intense! It is definitely geared towards the serious hula student or to those who desire to get serious.

The following are the two sessions being offered:

'Olapa Hula Session:  Monday August 27th - Friday August 31 2012
 'Olapa hula training - 2 1/2 years

Kumu Hula Session:  Sunday September 2nd - Thursday September 6th 2012
Kumu hula training - 3 1/2 years

(Each session is scheduled to run for five days, 8 hours a day, twice a year for two and a half years. Each week long class will be equivalent to one year's training.)

On April 17th we will begin accepting applications for acceptance into the Kumu Hula training program. If accepted into this class you will be required to attend all sessions and master all of the coursework with the intention of becoming a Kumu Hula.

Please bookmark or follow this page for more detailed class information as well as registration information in the days to come.
